Opal’s passion for teaching began as she merged her love of movement and childhood pastime of ballet into a dance and fitness program she developed and implemented for her home town, East Providence, RI, nearly 3 decades ago. For 12 years as a classical dance and fitness instructor, she was able to help toddlers through adults develop body awareness and well-being through the power of movement. With continued encouragement from the community, Opal obtained her second Bachelor’s degree in Education and transitioned from her full time career in Finance into a career as an Elementary and Middle School teacher.
However, over the years Opal’s passion for movement and desire to maintain a balance between a healthy mind set and body led her back into the world of fitness through Pilates. Pilates became a restorative and healing practice for Opal as she continued to find familiarity and comfort in the lines and movement and also a deeper, balanced mind and body connection. “Pilates for me is an internal awakening, an outlet from daily stress and an investment in my overall well-being.” With 20 years of Pilates practice with Mat, Reformer and the familiar Barre, Opal returned to aiding others in making this same connection and began her training as a Pilates instructor after years of encouragement from instructors, trainers and fellow students.
As a Stott trained Pilates Instructor, Opal utilizes her skills as a dance instructor, classroom teacher and Pilates practitioner as a recipe for assisting others in learning how to listen to their own bodies’ needs and make the corrections necessary for healthy lifestyles. With a focus on balance, strength and conditioning, Opal channels her knowledge of the body’s natural movement into targeting and triggering muscle groups to get through life’s daily tasks and build a strong frame to prevent future injuries. Opal feels confident in using the power of Pilates to assist clients on their own journeys with the tools necessary for a strong Mind and Body connection whether the end result be for Balance and Stability, Core Strengthening and Support, Restorative Conditioning, Postural Support and Lengthening, or simply overall confidence.
